Kakegawa Castle in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kakegawa Castle (掛川城, Kakegawa-jō) is a hirayama-style Japanese castle in Kakegawa City[1], Shizuoka Prefecture. The original Kakegawa Castle donjon or keep, first built by Yasuhiro Asahina in 1513, was partially destroyed in an earthquake in 1854 and was completely demolished in 1869 with the end of the Tokugawa regime. 140 years later in April 1994, sections of the innermost bailey (honmaru), including some walls, (a yagura), and the keep (tenshukaku), were reconstructed with great care using the original methods. It is famous as the first castle in Japan to be recreated using original wood construction techniques.[2][3][4]
