Some tips[edit]

To sign your posts, use "~~~~". If you're want to link to a category or file, type it as [[:Category:Cats]] or [[:File:Example.jpg]]. Without the colon at the beginning, it will categorize the page or display the image. Guanaco (talk) 02:19, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not categorize project pages, like you did to Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests.  — Jeff G. ツ 02:28, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation in Wikimedia Commons[edit]

Please read and understand COM:CAT to find out how the category system of Wikimedia Commons works. Please also read COM:OVERCAT for more information on one of the more common mistakes made in categorising media or categories. - Takeaway (talk) 09:23, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Location Map of Banate, Iloilo.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

File:Unicorn Gundam Statue RX-0 IMG 0564.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi, Yuraily Lic. Sorry to upload an image that violates copyright issues. I understand the result and you may proceed to delete it. I think I need to delete similar images I have posted on Facebook. Thank you for your good work!
For discussion puroses: The Statue of Liberty Replica and Gundam Statue are the most photographed places in Odaiba. They are placed in public places and around them are no of signs that "No photos are allowed" placed.

File: Enoshima Island.jpg[edit]

When I modified the coordinates of File: Enoshima Island.jpg, a warning sign popped out. I'm not on track, can anyone help me adjust this?

I am doing it manually and this is the right place (35° 18′ 07.26″ N, 139° 28′ 51.68″ E ) for the camera location. Dandy1022 (talk) 05:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC) [reply]

Same request as above that needs adjustment. The correct coordinates are

35° 09′ 33.43″ N, 139° 49′ 59.49″ E, which is a misunderstanding when reading the map. I apologize for the inconvenience. Dandy1022 (talk) 05:04, 24 February 2021 (UTC) [reply]

A few tips[edit]

Hi there,

I saw your message at your File:Tsurumi riverbank.jpg nomination. In general, Cayambe's advice to go through the quality images process first is a good idea. We have three primary ways of highlighting high-quality content. Quality image is about improving technical quality, valued images is about the best image in a particular scope, and featured pictures requires high technical quality but also something like a "wow factor". It's a good idea to start with quality images first, in my opinion (it's what I did).

As for the terms Cayambe, mentioned, you can always look up jargon here: Commons:Photography terms.

Some general tips:

  • Reviewers for quality image or featured picture will look at the image in full size and scroll through it to look at the quality. Good to keep that in mind.
  • Does your camera allow shooting in "RAW" or only jpeg? There are a lot of jpeg artifacts (looking especially in the sky) which can probably be avoided if shooting in RAW.
  • Using a program like Lightroom allows you to process the image with lots of easy sliders/settings, which can for example help with chromatic aberration (the purple/green fringes at points of high contrast).
  • Was this shot in "automatic" mode? For such a bright, mostly static scene, 1/1000 f/4 are not ideal settings. Increasing the f number would get you a sharper image, and you should be able to reduce the shutter speed to, say, 1/250 here to compensate because there's so much light.

You've done a good job with the "wow" part, though. It's a great picture. Especially with a little more room on the right side (so the dock isn't cut off), the lines of the dock and the lines of the fences would work to make a really nice composition to me. — Rhododendrites talk00:47, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Rhododendrites - Hi, Thanks for the tips, I am just starting to study in the field of photography, it is embarrassing to say that I sought the lessons from you, first, I did not look at the complete guidelines because of my preoccupation with something else. I will appreciate it and thanks again and all the best to you. - Dandy1022 (talk) 01:24, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You can also get some advice at COM:Photography critiques, though you might have to wait a while before someone notices your post. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:25, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Ikan Kekek Hi,Thanks for your help, I appreciate it very much. - Dandy1022 (talk) 01:35, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I created the wrong image for the file: Dwarf umbrella tree (Schefflera arboricola), I posted a picture of English ivy instead, is there a way to just change the image or need to request the deletion and create a new one or just rename Dwarf umbrella tree (Schefflera arboricola) to English ivy and change whole descriptions? Forgive my mistake. Dandy1022 (talk) 08:23, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, and welcome. Please change description and then use RenameLink or {{Rename}} for such cases.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:27, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
