Description
Nederlands: De democratie krijgt het zwaar te verduren: massamigratie, klimaatveranderingen, economische crisissen,... Er wordt veel gepalaverd en structurele oplossingen lijken zelden voor handen. Zou één sterke leidersfiguur het niet beter doen? Sterke mannen zijn op veel plekken in de wereld opnieuw razendpopulair: De Turkse president Erdogan, Vladimir Poetin, Trump in Amerika, de Chinese leider Xi Jingping,... Niet stuk voor stuk dictators overigens, maar politieke leiders die drastisch en kordaat optreden. UGent-historicus Bruno De Wever gaat na of dergelijke figuren een goed alternatief zijn voor het trage democratische proces met eindeloos veel checks en balances.
