, of Historic ornament about which so manypapers and art magazines have written descriptive articlesduring the last few months so that it need not here be described,except to mention that it was displayed as a class by itself andwas not in competition. Miss Frances E. Newman of Min-neapolis exhibited a chop platter that showed a splendididea of division and the mingling of floral with geometricalornament. The flowers were kept in exact relationship to thelow tones of gray in the background. Altogether, it was amost artistic combination. A cracker jar from Quincy lookedas though it might have been a veritable production of a littleJap himself, it was so faithful to Japanese arrangement. Thechoice of forms were very familiar, but the arrangement wasunique and well balanced. Unless one turned up the jar, onewould never suspect that it was enamelled on china, it gaveso closely the effect of enamel on metal. BURLEY EXHIBIT heramic studio 201 of the orange tree and blossoms quite artisticin conception. Kokomo, Indiana, sent a fine exhibitshowing a large preponderance of the con-ventional. Among the pieces was a blueand white bowl with broad bands and panels,the detail being very simple but very attrac-tive. A dinner plate in yellow gold showedvery careful technique. The ornament wasgeometrical and severe in lines but altogetherpleasing. Another dinner plate in this col-lection looked as though it might have beentaken from our grandmothers set, so faith-fully had the artist carried out the oldSevres decoration. We were attracted to abowl, the decoration being wholly of gold,panelled arrangement that showed pains-taking work and good execution. Therewas a quaint little teapot in blue and white,very simple but thoughtfully carried out.We should like to see this artist try her handat a combination of colors.
