Porcelains by Adelaide Alsop-Robineau exhibited by the American Womans League at the 1911 International Exposition of Turin, Italy. 84 KERAMIC STUDIO The motif is taken from the beetle or scarab pushing aball of food, symbolizing the toiler and his work. The inter-pretation of the design is as follows: the toiler, taking prideand pleasure in his work, holds it up, striving always towardthe ideal, typified by the carved sphere within sphere whichsurmount the cover.

TIGER LILY Hannah B. Over beck FIRST Firing.—Outline flowers with Blood Red. Leavesand stems with Dark Green No. 7 with Olive Greenand Black Green. Second Firing.—Red splashes on lilies Blood Red, otherparts of flowers Imperial Ivory with a little Black, leavesand stems same as outlines with the addition of more OliveGreen, anthers of stamens and sheathes on stems FinishingBrown with a little Imperial Ivory. Background YellowBrown with Finishing Brown. Third Firing.—Strengthen all parts with same colorsexcept the outside of flowers where Blood Red is used.
