Description

Restaurée à l'époque soviétique, la ville ancienne de Khiva (Ichan Kala) a été inscrite par l'UNESCO sur la liste du patrimoine mondial. C'est devenue une ville-musée mais près de 1500 familles y vivent aujourd'hui.

Elle est située dans la région du Khorezm, très proche de la frontière avec le Turkménistan.

Cette oasis sur la route de la soie est habitée depuis plus de 2.500 ans. Elle est entourée de murailles en terre séchée (pisé) et en briques et comprend de nombreux bâtiments religieux : mosquées et minarets, médersas, mausolées, palais..
