Les ruines de la tour centrale du Baphuon, temple-montagne shivaïte de 3 étages datant du milieu du XIè siècle, construit en grès sous le règne de Udayâdityavarman II La tour centrale du Baphuon, qui abritait le Linga sacré, a été totalement détruite au XVIème siècle car elle a servi de carrière pour la construction du Bouddha couché de la façade ouest. Aucun élément d'élévation n'a été identifié par les architectes et archéologues de l'EFEO. Dans l'impossibilité de restituer sa forme architecturale, le parti pris a été de se limiter à des éléments permettant de constater son emprise au sol. |
