Notes

This work is a study for “Landskab fra Næstvedegnen. Efter Solnedgang". (Landscape near Næstved. After sunset. H. Chr. Christensen no. 100), that one a study for one of L. A. Ring's well-known paintings "Aften. Mørket er ved at folde sig ud over et vidtstrakt Landskab med en Sø i Forgrunden. En Kvinde har træt sat sig til at hvile i Vejkanten. I luften ses Døden som en svævende Skygge". (Evening. The dark is unfolding over a vast landscape with a lake in the foreground. A tired woman is resting at the roadside. In the air, death is seen as a floating shadow.” That one with the measurements 118×94. H. Chr. Christensen no. 98).

Art historian Gitte Ditlevsen has been consulted when identifying the subject matter of this painting.
