Lié à la grande bourgeoisie nantaise, Louis Pommeraye va s'associer avec Charles Guillou, restaurateur de la rue Santeuil, pour réaliser un projet ambitieux : ouvrir, au coeur même de Nantes et non loin de son étude notariale, un luxueux passage couvert digne de ces passages parisiens qui connaissent une grande vogue dans la capitale et drainent des capitaux considérables....L'autorisation de livrer le passage au public est accordée par le maire de Nantes le 4 juillet 1843.
