Transcription:: Memphis, August 1, 1861


Capt Geo B. Hunt.[Captain George B. Hunt]

Iuka.


Dr. Sir: —


If you can bring your company of “Erin Gurads”[Erin Guards] to this place tomorrow I will receive them and send them at once to Missouri where they will be immediately mustered into the service of the State and put into active service. Bring all the extra guns you have of all kinds, and come immediately, as I am compelled to leave here at the earliest moment.
