English: A U.S. Navy Lockheed EP-3E Aries II (BuNo 156511) from Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 1 (VQ-1) "World Watchers" in flight over the East China Sea on 24 September 2020. This plane collided with a Chinese Shenyang F-8 "Finback" fighter (s/n 81192) on 1 April 2001 and made an emergency landing at Lingshui Air Base, Hainan Island, China. 24 crewmembers were held until released on 11 April. The plane itself was returned in August 2001 and rebuilt by Lockheed Martin, using parts of NP-3D 150525 and the wings of P-3B 153453. Its first flight after the rebuild was on 15 November 2002 and it was returned to service. |
