Summary[edit]

Description

Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans: Continuing repair work on Industrial Canal levee breaches, New Orleans, as seen from atop emergency levee, looking riverward (south). This is the breach in from Florida Avenue. Shown is temporary levee of rubble fill, just inland from which a section of the pre-Katrina sheetpilings is visible, bowed out, marking the southern end of the northern breach.

Devastated residential neighborhood down from Jourdan Avenue visible to left. In far distance along the avenue, the rust colored ING 4727 barge can be just seen, inland of the southern breach. To the right is the fill, with a worker trailer atop it. Towers of Claiborne Avenue Bridge in distance at right.
