7.—No. 36 South Square, Westminster. Hampstead Garden Suburb 19 the disposition of the rooms in a town house, and the porchof No. 7 St. Jamess Square, his handling of an ordinaryand traditional composition (Fig. 8). In the Chelsea gardenof the late Sir Hugh Lane (Fig. 9) he has by the simpleelements of screen, steps, paving and statues given apersonal character to a plain oblong patch of ground. Amongst many London interiors the cedar-lmed librarydesigned for Viscount Haldane (Fig. 10) and Lady Hornerslibrary in Lower Berkeley Street (Fig. 12) are very attractive. Sir Edwins most notable contribution to London archi-tecture is, however, suburban rather than urban. He wasentrusted with the general plan of the Central Square atthe Hampstead Garden Suburb including the AnglicanChurch, the Free Church, the Institute and the enclosinggroup of houses, some of which appear in Fig. II.
