that wouldjustify a belief that such a change even if itwere possible, is either necessary or desirable. It should be stated in this connection, how-ever, that the more experienced and ableelectro-therapeutists do not contend that theapplication of the electric current to the bodyintroduces into it a new element, or doesanything chemically except to stimulate ormodify natural exchanges. The contention, therefore, that electricity is susceptible, whenintroduced into the body, of initiating newprocesses of chemical elaboration not alreadyinherent and operative within the organism, proceeds from the over-zealous rather thanfrom the abler electro-therapeutists. It is tobe sincerely regretted, however, that this errorin respect to the capabilities of electricity as atherapeutic agent, should have become sowidely current as it unfortunately has. Electricity certainly cannot stimulate a nerveto perform that which is outside of its normalfunction. If it could, it would be an agent of Plate VII
