ears that this com-bination of symptoms was recognized as being caused by the samelesion, syringomyelia. This condition has been given a specialname by Schlesinger—Partial Macrosomia. For the enlarge-ment of the whole hand, Hoffman and Marie have chosen thename Cheiromegalia; for the enlargement of the foot, Schles-inger has suggested the name Podomegalia. This hypertrophy usually begins in one extremity, spreadingfrom there to the trunk, or jumping to the other extremity. Itseems, sometimes, to involve the soft tissue alone; other times, and less frequently, it involves the soft and skeletal tissues. Thelength of an extremity is not found increased as often as is thethickness, nor does the length increase as much, when increasedat all, as does the thickness. In connection with the hypertrophy of the tissue, arthrop-athies are frequently found—thickening of bones about thejoints, hardening of articular ligaments, and, as in the case de-scribed by Nolbandoff, softening of the bones.
