Description
English: West side of Main Street, Middletown, Connecticut, USA, immediately north of Washington Street (Connecticut Route 66). Visible buildings are:
  • 489-493 Main Street, Caulkin's Buick-Cadillac (now Luce Restaurant), built 1905
  • Building under construction at 505 Main Street, where the 1894 St. Aloysius Building collapsed
  • Salvation Army (former supermarket), 515 Main Street
  • 533 Main Street, Central Fire Station, built 1899
  • 545-549 Main Street, former Scotch Evangelical Union Church, built 1856, but considerably remodeled
  • 591 (?) Main Street, unidentified modern building
  • 601-607 Main Street, Hotel Arrigoni, built 1914
Caulkin's Buick-Cadillac, the Central Fire Station, and the Hotel Arrigoni are contributing properties of the Main Street Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The former Scotch Evangelical Church is not considered a contributing property because "Aluminum siding and inappropriate Colonial style refenestration, as well as the gutting of the interior for modern medical offices has irrevocably compromised the integrity of the building," according to the NRHP nomination.
