Description
English: A complete copper alloy commemorative medal of the post-medieval period, dating to the reign of Queen Victoria (AD 1837 - AD 1901).

Medal made to commemorate the Fiftieth Year of Victoria's reign in the year AD 1887. The obverse depicts the crowned bust of the Queen facing left, the reverse depicts a castle which is flanked by two shields of the arms of England. The inscription reads: "[Victoria] Queen of Great Brita[in and Ireland * Duke of Lancaster; Lancaster Storey.Major *] [In Commemoratio]n of t[he fiftieth] year of her [majesty's reign]." 21st June 1887.

Abrasion and corrosion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail, also has resulted in some damage on the left side of the obverse. There are traces of a white metal coating on the surface.
