Title
Modern Medal
Description
English: German copper alloy medal, probably dating to the Modern period around the time of the First World War. The medal is circular in plan and heavily corroded. It has a bright green patination and has suffered damage, rendering the medal bent upwards at each edge. The medal has a lipped edge. The obverse bears the bust of the issuing monarch, now heavily worn and unrecognisable and the legend, now illegible, would have been the honorific titles of the king. Unfortunately as the medal is so corroded, it is now impossible to distinguish which monarch is featured on this example. The reverse bears a circular wreath with the inscription DER TA[P]FE[RKEIT] which translates as 'to the bravery'.

The medal measures 31mm in diameter and 3.6mm in thickness. It weighs 13.72g.
