Summary

[edit]
Description
English: London, Ontario.
The property which became Mount Hope originally belonged to William Barker, formerly the mayor of London. The property was purchased by Bishop John Walsh on May 10, 1869 for the Sisters of St. Joseph. The building was extended in 1877 to become the Mount Hope Mother House, Orphanage and Home for the Aged, and in 1899, renamed the House of Providence. In 1951, St. Mary’s Hospital was built on one side, and in 1966, Marian Villa built on the other side. The Barker House was torn down in 1965 when Marian Villa was built, and the 1877 extension was demolished in 1980 when the addition to St. Mary's Hospital was built.
