6 Mayıs 1927’de Büyük Postane’de yayına başlayan İstanbul Radyosu’nun stüdyo ihtiyacını karşılamak üzere 1945’te “İstanbul Radyo Evi Ulusal Proje Yarışması” açıldı. Orhan Safa-Kemal Ahmet Aru, Nizamettin Doğu-Abidin Mortaş, Harika-Kemali Söylemezoğlu gibi mimari ortaklıkların katıldığı yarışmada İsmail Utkular, Doğan Erginbaş ve Ömer Güney’in projesi birinci seçildi. 19 Kasım 1949’da hizmete giren yapı, geleneksel Türk konutunun mimari özelliklerini anıtsal yapılara uyarlayan İkinci Ulusal Mimarlık Akımı’nın en önemli örneklerinden biri sayılır. Fotoğraf Harbiye’de, imara henüz kapalı olan 2 no’lu park alanının bitişiğinde yer alan yapının 1940’ların sonundaki inşaat durumunu göstermektedir. Çizimler, Harika-Kemali Söylemezoğlu çiftinin yarışma önerilerine aittir.
