Neolithic Scraper
Photographer

Title
Neolithic Scraper
Description
English: Dark grey flint with cortex, scraper. A thick flake with cortex trimmed by the removal of broad flakes from the dorsal surface and with a bulb on the ventral side. The ventral surface bears misty patches of patina suggesting its exposure to a calcareous environment after being detached from a larger nodule. The exposed parts of the dorsal surface lack this coating, suggesting that debris from more ancient activity was reused to make a simple tool. The Neolithic period could accommodate both episodes, and the reworking is perfunctory but assured. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.
