New Orleans in 1852 Artist's view, looking upriver from an elevated spot just in from the Mississippi River front in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood below Elysian Fields. Scene shows a variety of sailing and steam ships on the Mississippi and at dock. Across the river Algiers Point is seen. The East bank "front of town" is scene, with such landmarks as the spires of St. Louis Cathedral and the dome of the old St. Charles Hotel visible. View continues upriver with the river bend at Carrollton seen in distance. |
