English: On December 9, 1999, a CH-46D Sea Knight crashed during a boarding exercise off the coast of San Diego, California, The pilot landed the CH-46 short on the deck of the USNS Pecos, causing the left rear tire and strut to become entangled in the safety netting at the back of the ship, tragically causing the Sea Knight to plunge into the ocean with eighteen U.S. Marines onboard.
