Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On July 23, 2018, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of Australia’s Northern Territory.

The northern-most part of the Northern Territory is known as the “Top End” while the southern portion is called the “Red Centre” – both strikingly appropriate names. While the Top End sits at the “top” (north) of Australia, area colored with shades of red, from cinnabar to rust, is located near the heart of Australia.

The Northern Territory has two distinct types of climate. In the south, the climate is semi-arid and hot, which the northern section claims more tropical conditions. In the verdant Top End, the summer’s “wet season” runs from December to March, while April through November remains dry. The Red Centre, however, experiences four seasons – spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Both winter and summer can bring extreme cold and heat, respectively, while spring and autumn tend to bring more moderate temperatures.
