Travel Diary Day 36 (my travel blog - strange-lands.com/daily/2012/08/17/more-surreal-hdr/)

Since we're winding down a lot in preparation for our return to the Motherland, I attempted to go to the beach again today. This time I smeared sun tan lotion all over my arms so that no skin colour could be seen. When I took my top off it looked like I was wearing two long white sleeves - the opposite of a sleeveless top. I want to call it a sleeved top but that would just be a jumper.

I discovered three things while observing people today. Firstly, I shouldn't be looking at girls in bikinis when Rachel is with me because I'm a disgusting loser if I do and I need to grow up, even if it is for human research purposes.

Secondly, men wearing speedos love to stand with their hands on their hips, crotch pushed forward slightly, and gaze into the distance as if deep in thought. No man should wear so little in public.

And finally, when people are walking out of the sea they feel super sexy, especially the blokes. There's a scene in a recent James Bond movie when Daniel Craig walks out of the sea in some tighty-whities. The girls like that scene. The guys think they're replicating it perfectly as they stumble out of the sea with beer-bellies hanging over their shorts.

For me this is the sober equivalent of dancing when you're drunk. You're almost 100% certain you're the sexiest person in the room at the moment.

Today's Photo - Nusa lembongan cliff

People come to this spot to jump off into the sea – it’s madness. A girl was lying on the floor when we arrived. She was in a state of tears and being checked by a doctor. I couldn’t see if the damage was bad.

Her clothes and hair weren’t wet. We deduced that she’d fallen over on the way to the cliff – even the journey there is dangerous. As I stood on the cliff, nowhere near the edge, Rachel was clinging onto my backpack to stop me falling in. At some point in the future she’ll no doubt claim she’s saved my life before.
