English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
Impression of the daily routine of herring fishing aboard the "Volharding". SHOTS: Katwijk fishermen depart from the harbour of IJmuiden to go herring fishing, waved goodbye by family and other onlookers. As the fishermen arrive at the fishing grounds the nets are prepared and, after the captain has said a prayer, thrown into the water and drawn in. At night the net is drawn in and the catch is immediately processed, in this case gutted, salted and pickled. Crans of herring, the catch of the other ships, are taken aboard at open sea. When there's enoug fish on board the ship sails home. The captain reports via the radio to the home port how much was caught and when they expect to arrive. In the harbour the barrels of herring are quickly loaded to lorries who take the load to the auction.
