COUNT LAMBERT IN HIS WRIGHT MACHINE, IN WHICH HE TOOK FOURTH PRIZE IN THE SPEED CONTEST. 144 THE OUTING MAGAZINE game, covered nearly 81 miles, remain-ing in the air 2 hours, 43 minutes, 24^seconds. Not for a whole day wasthis record disturbed. Then Lathamflew 96J miles in less than 2 hours and18 minutes. This in turn was destined to standonly 24 hours. Then Farman, the Eng-lishman, swept the sky with his ownbiplane, traveling 112J miles in 3 hours,4 minutes, 56 seconds. This was the Latham carried off the honors in thealtitude contest on the last day of thetournament. The height which he at-tained with his monoplane, equippedwith a Levasseur engine, was 155 me-ters, more than 505 feet.
