radioaktive Elemente mit Isotopen sehr langer dekadischer Halbwertszeit > 1 Million Jahre also mit vernachlässigbar kleiner Radioaktivität, die ohne Vorkehrungen gehandhabt werden können.
 
radioaktive Elemente, die eine geringe Gesundheitsgefahr bergen. Ihre Halbwertszeit liegt bei über 500 Jahren und erlaubt kommerzielle Anwendung aufgrund der Strahlungstärke, die der natürlichen Hintergrundstrahlung ähnlich ist.
 
Radioaktive Elemente von denen bekannt ist, dass sie ein hohes Sicherheitsrisiko ausmachen. Ihre Halbwertszeit liegt über einem Tag und ihre Strahlungsstärke macht sie wenig attraktiv für kommerzielle Nutzung außer als Strahlungsquelle.
 
Hochgradig radioaktive Elemente. Weil ihre Halbwertszeit nur wenige Minuten beträgt, stellen sie ein schweres Gesundheitsrisiko dar, so dass es unwahrscheinlich ist, dass sie einen Nutzen außerhalb der Grundlagenforschung haben.
 
Extrem radioaktive Elemente. Nur wenig ist über diese Elemente bekannt und sie werden wahrscheinlich nie Aufmerksamkeit außerhalb von Forschungslaboratorien bekommen.
