Post-Medeieval Commemorative Medal of Victoria
Description
English: Copper alloy Medal. Pressed metal commemorative medal celebrating the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria (1897), of concavo-convex form. On the obverse a legend in Roman capitals is carried horizontally over the arms of a Maltese cross with a cushion crown and the date: 18 97 in a central oval panel, all on a plain ground. The obverse [convex side] legend reads: TO COMMEMORATE/THE//60th/YEAR/OF THE//REIGN/OF/H.M.//QUEEN/VICTORIA.

The reverse presents a crowned and draped profile of Victoria left in the central panel; above is the Union flag and the Royal Standard flanking a monogram combining the letters VRI [possibly for Victoria Regina Imperatrixque]; below a swag of shamrock, roses, oak leaf and thistle and the legend VICTORIA/THE GOOD; left swags of Rose and laurel and the date 1837; right, a swag of oak leaves and the date 1897.
