Title
Post-Medieval Medal
Description
English: White metal probable medal. A milled disc with serrated edge, and with unusual motifs and a circumferential legend on both sides, none of which is completely clear.

?Obverse description: A figure may be represented by a series of curved lines to the right, possibly wearing a crested helmet of Classical form, and holding a vertical staff with triangular pennant. To the left, further curved lines depict either a figure or a tall plant with flower-head, from which projects a hand; some dialogue is implied between these elements.

?Obverse inscription: [--]3 HCVO [-]IDO[--]N, with letters YCO at right angles leading into the second part.

?Reverse description: Oval or vesical shaped panel with a motif resembling a daisy with three flowers surrounded by equidistantly spaced six-pointed stars. A circumferential inscription is too worn to read. This may have a devotional or institutional significance, as the flowers in particular may have a Marian association in Catholic iconography. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900.

Diameter: 19.1mm, Weight: 0.93gms, die axis: probably 12.
