Title |
Post-Medieval nut cracker |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy nut cracker dating to the Post-Medieval period. The object consists of one arm, and one half of the crushing box. The top of the arm is circular in cross-section. The arm then curves outwards and flattens forming a D-shaped cross-section. It terminates with a break. The arm would have tapered to meet the opposite arm. The circular part of the handle is decorated with seven transverse moulded collars, two of which consist of a series of vertical grooves and ridges. The crushing box is D-shaped in cross-section. The internal face has triangular shaped indentations to grip and break the nut. The outer face is decorated with two vertical panels containing horizontal grooved decoration. The object has a brownish-green patina. |
