Title |
Post-medieval : Nutcracker |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy hinged nutcracker dating to the late post-medieval period. One of the arms has broken off. The interior of the hinge has indentations to grip and break the nut. The arms are decorated with collars, which are themselves decorated with parallel ridges. The surviving arm is circular in section, then flattens out into a D-shaped section. The ends of the arm curve out; they would have tapered to meet at the bottom prior to damage. Similar nut crackers have been recorded on this database - PAS refs. HAMP3159, NLM172 - and date to the 18th or 19th centuries. |
