Description |
English: Probable pewter pendant. The medal is octangonal and has a moulded rim. One face depicts Mary in profile looking to the left. She wears a headscarf. The inscription surrounding it reads REFVGIVM PECCATORVM ORA P N. The 'P' is short for PRO and the 'N' is short for NOTIC. The phrase can be translated as 'Refuge of sinners pray for us'. The reverse shows two seated figures holding hands in the centre. Above are rays of light below is an uncertain motif. The scene may depict St Peter and Ecclesia. The design is very renaissance-derived and may date to between the 17th and 20th century. |
