English: Pynfolds Estate, Rotherhithe, London, SE16 Boarded by West Lane, Paradise Street and Jamaica Road as seen from Cathay Street. In 1541 near this area was a meadow called "Pynfolds Mead" - Pynfold being a place where stray sheep are penned awaiting collection by the owner. On the corner, where the bins are, once stood the "Red Lion" pub at 36 Paradise Street. The pub opened about 1792, closed 1950 and demolished 1961. The estate was built upon Staples Rents, a hall and a school. |
