Title
Roman coin: A modern forgery of a 'sestertius' of Otho
Description
English: A 'sestertius of Otho' (AD 69). This is a Renaissance or modern forgery as Otho minted no sestertii. The obverse type is recorded, but the reverse type is not included in Z. H. Klawans, Imitations and Inventions of Roman Coins (see page 54, nos. 3-4). Many of these pieces were made in Italy for collectors in the Renaissance and early modern periods and they are often called 'Paduans'.
