Rovinj or Rovigno is a town and municipality in Istria, Croatia. In the 2001 census, the municipality had 14,234 inhabitants, of which 65.94% were Croats, 11.44% were Italians (11.47% did not declare nationality) and the city alone had 13,467 inhabitants. It is a bilingual Croatian / Italian commune. Rovinj-Rovigno was built on a rocky outcrop on the western coast of Istria, before being connected to the mainland in 1763. A legend tells that Rovinj-Rovigno was founded by the inhabitants of a city engulfed by the name of Cissa. An underwater exploration in 1890 would have even confirmed this legend. For several years, hotels have been developing and the business is adapting to the ever more important arrival of Italian, German, Austrian, Dutch and Swiss tourists. Rovinj ou Rovigno est une ville et une municipalité située en Istrie, dans le Comitat d'Istrie, en Croatie. Au recensement de 2001, la municipalité comptait 14 234 habitants, dont 65,94 % de Croates, 11,44 % d'Italiens (11,47 % ne déclarant pas de nationalité) et la ville seule comptait 13 467 habitants. C'est une commune bilingue croate/italien. On l'appelle la « petite Venise croate ».Construite sur un éperon rocheux sur la côte Ouest de l'Istrie, Rovinj-Rovigno était une île avant d'être reliée au continent en 1763.Une légende raconte que Rovinj-Rovigno fut fondée par les habitants d'une ville engloutie du nom de Cissa. Une exploration sous-marine en 1890 aurait même confirmé cette légende .Depuis plusieurs années, les hôtels se développent et le commerce s'adapte à la venue toujours plus importante de touristes Italiens, Allemands, Autrichiens, Néerlandais et Suisses.
