Summary
[edit]DescriptionSea Dart missile HMS Cardiff 1982.JPG |
English: A telemetry Sea Dart missile on British destroyer HMS Cardiff. Photograph taken many months (1983) after the end of the Falklands War. This missile was loaded on to the launcher in response to air contacts detected closing on the Falklands Islands. The missile launcher failed to aim towards the threat and the missile itself became unserviceable, however the closing aircraft turned back anyway. This is a telemetry round. The telemetry receive antenna can clearly be seen sitting on the top of the 4.5 gun.
The gun would be trained to follow the aquiring 909 and therefore always be aligned to follow the missile and thus pick up the telemetry data. |
