Description
English: Astrophysicist and fifth Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution (1928-1944) Charles G. Abbot with a half horse-power solar boiler, exhibited at the International Congress of Engineers and used by the National Broadcasting Co. with a steam engine and generator to broadcast to the United States and Canada. Secretary Abbot is seen here to the right of the photograph with his hand on the machine. There are three unidentified men on the left of the solar boiler
