amid thevicissitudes of the college to hold regular meetings during every college session. It also holds grad-uating exercises and issues diplomas, signed by its officers, each spring. The 1 lahnemannian Med-ical Institute was organized shortly after the opening of the Homoeopathic Medical College ofPennsylvania, during the session of (849-50. Its original name was the Williamsonian Institute, but by therequest of Dr. Walter Williamson, in whose honor the name was originally bestowed, it was changed in (854to the present appellation which it has ever since held. Its meetings were at first held semi-weekly, but oflate years they have only been held monthly during the college session. In the Philadelphia Journal ofHomoeopathy for March, 1853, we find this society mentioned as follows: This association is composed of students attending the lectures in the Homoeopathic College of Pennsyl-vania. The design of the organization is the mutual improvement of its individual members Examinations

DIOTORIALOF THE INSTITUTE on all the branches taught in the college are held regularly by members chosen fn>ni the society, and who re-ceive as incentive to the faithful performance of their duties the title of professors. At the- close of each ision they have adopted the plan ^i holding a commencement, at which they have an animal oration and vale-dictory, and all those who have been sufficiently successful to become passed candidates for the degree of Doc-tor of Medicine in thfe collegeare rewarded with a diploma from this Institute also, provided they have com-plied with the rules and regulations. The scope of the Institute has been somewhat altered since the establishment of compulsory quizzes inthe college curriculum. Instead of the quizzes excellent essays are given by the members.
