The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra acquired this true-color image of a snowy day in Alberta on November 25, 2018.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra acquired this true-color image of a snowy day in Alberta on November 25, 2018. The snow-covered landscape can be seen clearly, especially in the center of the image, but clouds obscure much of the Rocky Mountains in the west. A thinner layer of cloud sits along the eastern edge of the image.

According to a forecast published by Global News on November 16, the cold fall isn’t expected to last. “Artic blocking will be on the increase this winter starting near Greenland but spreading west with time,” read the article. “Above-normal temperatures and near-normal snowfall is expected”. As of November 26, Banff ski areas report approximately 78 cm (30.7 in) upper snow depth and 50 cm (19.6) lower snow depth. Banff sits high in the Rockies in southern Alberta, with a maximum elevation approximately 5,350 feet (1,630 m). Banff is hidden under heavy cloud near the southern edge of the image.

Forecasts for much of Alberta on November 26 includes precipitation, but not much snow. The Government of Canada has issued an advisory for freezing rain for much of the region lasting, in some areas, through November 27.
