English: Southwest corner of Leonard Avenue and Locust Street. Rex and O'Hearn Horse Shoers, Missouri Rail Road Company Building, and Grand-Leader Warehouse and Stables. Businesses at the southwest corner of Leonard Avenue and Locust Street. When Pierre Laclede established the settlement at St. Louis he adopted the French custom of designating a tract of land as the Commons, a public area that all residents could use for chopping lumber or letting their animals graze. Midtown was originally part of the Commons and did not become a residential or commercial center until the 1870s. Title: Southwest corner of Leonard Avenue and Locust Street. |
