THE LETTER-BOX Carlsbad, New Mexico.Dear St. Nicholas: I thought I would write and tellyou something about this country. Our people liveway up in the cool, green, pine-covered mountains. Ourpeople (about two hundred) have a happy life up hereaway from the troubles of the earth. The country isrough until you get out on top, and then it is a smooth, beau-tiful valley. We get our mail twice a week and we girlsand boys dearly love to see it coming. We have somelarge, beautiful caves up here and people have said that ifthey were fully explored they would equal the MammothCave of Kentucky. They have all kinds of colored rocksinside, and there are rooms after rooms, until you cantcount them. There are also lakes of the clearest ice-coldwater. I liked The Lass of the Silver Sword. I dohope that there will be a sequel to it, and Jean and Douglasand Carol
