Description

Airmail stamp of the United Arab Emirates – Emirate Umm al-Qiwain; 1972; commemorative airmail block of the issue "The life Christi"; issue of 19 stamps in great format + 21 blocks each à 1 stamp in great format + 1 se-tenant à 16 stamps (Michel No. 1178A-1193 A) in small format + 16 stamps in small format; Depicted is the airmail-block à 1 stamp in great format on white background UAE-UQ MiNr1176BwBl from 1972 and shows a detail of the painting "Madonna del Granduca" by Raffaelo Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520).; It’s giving these stamp also with pale blue background.; Raffaelo created this paining in 1506/1507 (other source: 1504) in the style of the Renaissance.; The original painting is contemporary possession of the "Galleria Palatina" in the Palace Pitti in Rome and is showed to the publicity in Florence (since 1882 in the so-called "Saturn-Room" of the "Collection Pitti").; It’s giving numberous copies from this painting (among them also any very good).; The "Madonna del Granduca“ is one of the most famous paintings of Raffael, because in this painting he shows all facets of his craft, especially in order to express religious topics with immediate human characteristics.; Named is this painting after Ferdinand III, the Grandduke of the Tuscany, (1769-1824) which has let purchase this picture end of 1799.; On this painting is depicted the Virgin Mary, standing, with her child in the arms.; Her melancholy gaze is directed downwards as she holds her child out towards the onlooker, inviting him or her to contemplate his sweet, serious face.; The gestures of the two subjects are measured, in spite of its simplicity, the whole composition conveys the deep affection that binds them, as well as a painful awareness of Christ’s future sacrifice.; This picture was painted by Raphael in 1506-7, during his stay in Florence (1504-1508), when Michelangelo, Leonardo and Fra Bartolomeo were producing their own masterpieces in this city.; Unfortunately is this block postmarked with an unreadable CTO.
