Summary[edit]

Description

"Moran Bros. Co.'s ship yard—The frame of steamer Geo. W. Dickinson 30 days after laying keel" from brochure Seattle and the Orient (1900); see Robert Moran (shipbuilder); the shipyard was on the Seattle waterfront.

The ship was purchased by the U.S. Navy and renamed the Seward: see Annual Report of the Quartermaster General to the Secretary of War for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1900, p. 50.
Date 1900; the caption of this photo and of Image:Steamer Geo. W. Dickinson under construction 02 - 1900.jpg and the date written on that latter photo would suggest that this would have been March 8, 1900.
Source

p. 55 of Seattle and the Orient (more properly, Seattle …and the… Orient), a 1900 "souvenir" pamphlet edited and compiled by Alfred D. Bowen and published by The Times Printing Company (that is, the Seattle Times).
