| Description | Supporting Steve Hillage at The Junction 1 in Cambridge were the eclectic The Utopia Strong. This three-piece is a free-form electronic improv unit featuring Kavus Torabi on highly-processed lead guitar and vocal treatments (Lead man with Gong), Michael J York (From Coil; wind instruments) and twiddling the modular analogue synths - Steve Davis. Yes, THAT Steve Davis; retired World Champion snooker player! They were a bit of a revelation to my mind - Two long pieces over 30 minutes that channelled early Tangerine Dream (Zeit/Atem period) as remixed by Fat Boy Slim! My colleagues, however, were split 50/50 on this one! |
