Cassie

Cassie is one of the rarest kinds of model, one that I actually find very beautiful. She is slender and pale, with hair the colour of autumn leaves and she is the kind of person you feel could actually be your friend; rather than a model you are spending some time with taking photos. When you first meet her, you question whether such an unassuming, ordinary, girl next door could ever give you something on film that would make you go wow. But the thing is, once she steps in front of the camera, she becomes someone else. She holds herself with such poise and such confidence that her almost Irish beauty shines through. Her hair is rustic and her skin like porcelain, and this give an image life, but in a vintage style. She is old fashioned in her outlook, sweet in her words, and the fact that she models to nude is almost a contradiction.

So we met in the morning. Somewhere around 9am, I ambled into her sleepy little village and parked outside a cottage that looked as if it were made from chocolate and biscuits. She joined me moments in the car and we immediately began chatting about where we would shoot, what kind of look we were after and how awful the impending weather seemed to look. We should not have worried, for the gold in the leaves was fully illuminated by a low morning sun which brought out the rich colours of autumn.

She took me to a stream, a few miles from where she lived and we proceeded to take images trapped beneath a low mist which clung to the water. We concentrated mainly on artistic, ethereal nude (if that is a genre), and whilst shooting, I kept one eye open for passing traffic and curious hikers. We were not discovered. Shortly after, we made our way to a trail that was drenched in leaves that had rusted and fell from the trees in their thousands. Scattering the floor like a carpet, I thought that the contrast between the rustic coloured foliage and her pale and smooth skin would make for a great image; full of pop and clarity. There was a line of gates which offered the best of symmetrical backdrops and using a 135mm lens, I was able to flatten the distance considerably to give an effect of intimacy and closeness.
