Garden in December 1883, underthe name of M. parviflora ; at that timeit had not flowered in British gardens.It is hardy, has large creamy-whitefragrant flowers with petals of great sub-stance and deep red filaments, which addmaterially to the beauty of the blossoms. MALAXIS.—Terrestrial Orchids, ofbotanical interest mainly, and fitted forthe bog garden. MALCOLMIA (Virginian Stock). —The old M. maritima is a charming dwarfhardy annual, and grows in any soil.The varieties are—the white (alba), albanana, a dwarfer white than the other, andCrimson King (kermesina), a dwarf deepred sort, and these are all worthy ofculture. The Virginian Stock, like manyother annuals, does not show its fullbeauty from spring-sown seedlings, andwhere it sows itself in the gravel it isoften handsome.
