oad shelvesmade of strips of wood, with small spaces betweenthem, the shelves 12 inches apart, can be put upvery cheaply. The smaller and firmer fruit canbe placed several layers deep on the floor. Thelarge Apples should be placed in single layers onthe shelves. Do not use straw or hay in storing.In case of frost, keep doors and windows closed,and do not open the store for some days after athaw. A little frost will not injure Apples if A BRANCHING PSEUDO-BULB. Forking or branching in the pseudo-bulbs of•Orchids is by no means of common occurrence,-on which account we give an illustration (fig. 39)-of a plant exhibited before the Eoyal Horticul-tural Society on January 27 by J. Bradshaw, Esq.,■Southgate (gr., Mr. Whitelegge), which showedthis peculiarity. The growth started, wo are7informed, in the ordinary manner, but speedilydivided into two branches, which became of equalsize. Why this should have occurred we do notknow—possibly from some injury at a very earlystage of growth.

English and Irish growers of reputewho pack securely in uniform packages, boxes orbarrels of known capacity, as the case may be,and who carefully grade their fruit into firsts,seconds, and even thirds, have no difficulty indisposing of it at really good prices. A studymust be made of the particular market to whichconsignments are sent—a study of the most suit-able package to use, and the capacity of thatpackage; a study of the varieties most in demand,for there is a difference in the Dublin, Glasgow,Liverpool and London markets; and if thesepoints are attended to fruit will sell well. Growers for market will find it much to theiradvantage to use with first quality fruit a cheap,non-returnable package, which will be sold withthe fruit, as the barrels in which AmericanApples are imported a
