l is given in full in the Book of Rights, and should bebetter known. Cahir the Great (Cathaeir Mor) became monarchin A. D. 119. According to Irish genealogists he had three wivesand thirty sons, but only the ten mentioned in the will hadissue. Cahir was of pure Leinster blood and it is from himthat the great Leinster families—the OByrnes, the OTooles,the MacMurroughs or Murphys, the OConnor Faiys (fromRos Failghe, i. e. Ros of the rings.), the ODempseys of Clan-malier, the ODunnes of Iregan and others—descend. Hewas slain A. D. 123 by Conn of the Hundred Battles, who suc-ceeded him. The OGormans went for a thousand years, as the annalsshow, under the name of OBarry (Ui Bairrche, i. e. descendantsof Daire Barrach, a son of Cahir mentioned in the famous will),and some of them crossed over to Scotland with Fergus, sonof Eric, who founded the Scottish monarchy. They possessed •Pronounced Faley. Gh and dh in Gaelic are silent in the middle or atthe end of a word. Fh is always silent.
