Frank Kinley Tener, who was elected on the Republicanticket to the governorship of Pennsylvania, was born in Irelandin 1863, but came to this country when very small and wastaken by his parents to Pittsburg, where his father had beengiven a position. CENTENARY OF BATTLE OF CLONTARF. Interest in Irish circles has already been aroused in view ofthe approaching ninth centenary of the Battle of Clontarf, themost dramatic and far-reaching military victory in Irish history.In that battle, which took place on April 23, 1014, Brian Borubroke the Danish power in Ireland forever, and brought himselfimperishable renown. Brian fought twenty pitched battles withthe Danes, not one of which he lost. The old king, famous aspatron of letters and genealogist, as well as statesman andwarrior, stands out among the greatest figures in Irish history,and in medieval Europe there were few to compare with him.
